SNAP Benefits Are Increasing for 2027: Here Is What You Need to Know

Food assistance is getting a modest boost starting October 1, 2026.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) official guidance confirms that annual Cost-of-Living Adjustments (COLA) will raise monthly maximum benefits and income limits for the 2027 fiscal year.
 

Updated Monthly Allotments

For households living in the 48 contiguous states and Washington, D.C., maximum monthly allotments are increasing across all household sizes.

• 1 Person: $306 (Up $8)
• 2 People: $562 (Up $16)
• 3 People: $808 (Up $23)
• 4 People: $1,023 (Up $29)
• 5 People: $1,217 (Up $34)
• 6 People: $1,463 (Up $42)
• 7 People: $1,616 (Up $45)
• 8 People: $1,841 (Up $52)

The minimum monthly SNAP allotment for single- and two-person households will also edge up from $24 to $25.
 

Regional Allotment Differences

Payment amounts differ significantly in Alaska, Hawaii, and U.S. territories due to local food costs.

For example, a family of four in Alaska can receive up to $2,027 per month depending on location, while the same family in Guam can receive up to $1,507.

Hawaii stands as the main exception this period, where maximum payments for a four-person household decrease slightly to $1,655.
 

Income and Deductions Higher

Gross income limits are expanding to help more low-income families remain eligible.

In 48 states and D.C., single-person households can now have a gross monthly income up to $1,729, while four-person households can earn up to $3,575.

Standard deductions are also expanding, allowing families to shield more income from calculations.

The homeless shelter deduction rises to $205.66 per month, and the maximum excess shelter deduction increases to $769.
 

Asset Limits and Rules

General asset caps remain capped at $3,000 for most households.

However, households with members who are disabled or aged 60 and older see their asset limit increase to $4,750.

Existing work requirements introduced in prior federal law remain in place for Able-Bodied Adults Without Dependents (ABAWDs).
